"Black men deserve to grow old"

 I wanted to share this meme recently and ask how many of you are contributing to this for the men in your lives. Whether we're talking significant others, fathers, grandfathers, great grandfathers, nephews, uncles, brothers, cousins, or even friends.

This meme emerged in the outrage over the fatal beating of Tyre Nichols in Memphis, TENN. Well I overstated that, he was badly beaten by police officers and no one is characterizing this as a case of excessive force. The officers involved have been fired and charged with second degree murder. Sadly three days after being stopped & brutally beaten by Memphis Police in January Mr. Nichols died.

Nichols from some of what I read had crohn's disease and wasn't in robust health. He was over six feet tall but has been described as underweight compared to some of the officers involved with this incident. He leaves behind a son, who is now without a father. He was known as a free spirit who was into landscapes, paid no attention to stereotypes as a Black male, and he liked to skateboard. This is the kind of man you want to see grow old. It was sad to see him beaten and pepper sprayed by these officers call out for his mother.

To further interpret this meme, I had focused on say if the women who shared this meme have Black boyfriends or husbands. How would they contribute to the Black man in their lives to growing old? Is this something they believe beyond the current public outrages?

I suppose these meme, has a much deeper meaning to me. This shouldn't come out for the latest major story, especially when it comes to a case of police brutality. This should be an everyday thing.

Yes, Black men deserve to grow old. They deserve to be happy, treated with respect, and be surrounded by people who love them. That's my answer.

CapFax: CTU slammed for “clearly racist” tweet

I found out about this tweet from the Chicago Teacher's Union at Capitol Fax today. He's noted what if Chicago's Fraternal Order of Police had tweeted this out. And I'm guessing the police would be universally condemned for this.

Badgers

[VIDEO] Well since the badger was the mascot of Bennett-Shedd schools in my day, how about a video of an adorable badger. I wish I could tell you more about badgers except that it was part of a line from one my favorite movies from back in the day a cult-classic - UHF.

Here's a clip of that scene. This movie could be surreal and Raul the character you see accepting a delivery of animals for his program on a small independent TV station isn't happy about a delivery of badgers. The actor who played this part didn't complete this film as he had been killed in a car accident during the production. [VIDEO]

And also this video was popular in the first decade of this century. I can't say it makes much sense, however, if you choose to listen it will get in your head. [VIDEO]

And yet another "Daily Dose of Internet"

[VIDEO] Today's edition we start off with a man swimming under the ice in the Czech Republic among other videos you will see in over three minutes. As stated in a post earlier this week they will show a variety videos that you could spend all day surfing the internet and you might not be able to see all of them on your own. Usually the videos are of scientific, social, or often entertaining interest.

BTW, the Daily Dose of Internet YouTube channel has over 6 million subscribers. I do think this is a worthwhile channel to follow and of course they don't necessarily need me to promote their channel.

Your "Daily Dose of Internet"

[VIDEO] I've started following this channel recently. While they don't seem to post daily videos, many of the videos consist of a variety of items that most of us won't find even if we spent all day online.

Usually the videos involve wildlife footage such as the glow in the dark shark. Then nicely shot videos of a locale. Perhaps a video with an unsual special effect such as a guy becoming part of the escalator. Regardless most of what we see in a "Daily Dose of Internet" is often something that has either gone viral or become a meme.

Badger City presents - Wednesday's CTA red line AM commute

[VIDEO] This is a rare moment a videoblog for the Shedd School blog termed a Badger City presentation, a Sixth Ward production. It records my commute from the south side to downtown. As it turns out there was a problem.

From what I heard from our operator the whole State Street subway was closed due to police activity. As a result our train and all other red line trains would have to be rerouted through the loop elevated making all brown line stops before returning to their regular routes.

When I started recording at the Garfield stop our operator started snapping over the PA system telling us that the emergency buttons aren't to be used for asking directions. Even suggested if anyone wanted directions everyone should have a cell phone, especially a smartphone. Use your phones to figure out where you need to go he would state.

After we leave Garfield, another voice comes onto the PA system. I don't know if he was from a control center somewhere or from our train but he tries to offer directions for those passengers trying to get where they need to go. Of course our operator also chimes in saying there are those customers who still don't get it. I'm sure he was still getting people pressing the emergency button even after this other voice starts speaking on the train.

The rest of the video after Cermak-Chinatown shows my train going over the top the way trains from 95th used to go through downtown Chicago. We go on tracks along 18th Street and then we turn north on a right of way between State Street and Wabash Avenue. Before arriving at the elevation Roosevelt stop our operator announces that the State Street subway has been reopened. The other voice chimes in again to let us know of the next stops after Roosevelt.

Does public education ruin Black boys?

I feel this is on track with what you might have seen last month in another post, even if indirectly. Or if you want to talk about a so-called "war on boys". Does public education ruin Black males?

My history is a mixed bag. My time in public education could be view as could've been better. I don't think I ever found my groove. Perhaps it wasn't up to any of the teachers I had, perhaps it was more up to me. Then again as a child having an education provided for you is something you could take for granted while you have it.

I won't say it ruined me, but in the long run perhaps there was more that could've been gained by the experience. Perhaps for the day I finally have children something to think about for them.

They finally caught Chance the snapper

[VIDEO] If you've been following the news for the past week an alligator was lurking in the lagoons of Humboldt Park on the north side. The pictures I've seen of him show him to be small alligator, the video glimpses of him make him out to be a larger gator at least to me.

All the same Frank Robb came to Florida to trap him and he's not only been treated to the first pitch at a Cubs game he also came to turn on Buckingham Fountain. He's truly the hero of the moment.

I found this meme at CapFax just last week as the search for this gator continues. It's pretty funny especially since it seems to be true. Politicians looking for anything to tax.
