TommyBryson: 7 Worst Jobs that Keep People Stuck Forever

I really like this video and wanted to share this with you all.

Let's start with he might be ragging on certain jobs that include retail, fast food, or security. His point isn't just to say that you're just stuck in these positions. His point is try to make the most of it and don't allow yourself to be stuck in these positions.

Primarily either work to get promoted or apply whatever skills you've acquired in these positions to pursue other positions. Let's say for security, he would suggest you attempt to go into positions such as law enforcement or whatever allows you to help people the most. Though to be honest what I've observed about security is that many of them are doing it because it's a job.

Anyway if it seems like he's "hating" I would say take some of the good with the "bad". Just because you got a sales clerk job or a regular security guard or you flip burgers doesn't necessarily mean you're going to stay there. What else can you get out of these positions.

Watch the video below and let me know what you think? [VIDEO]

Two Cents: How to weigh job benefits

[VIDEO] Many students have started college or indeed quite a few high schoolers are looking for jobs. I think this may well be good for college students to weigh the types of jobs they want and what kind of benefits they need. You get a decent salary and other benefits such as health care, retirement fund (401K or pension), perhaps you want to work from home, or free tacos???

Either way Two Cents gives you a look at the costs of any benefits from any job that you might choose to pursue in the future. A good salary/wage is nice but then what else does a company offer to retain talent.

CSX: Day in the Life of a Freight Conductor

[VIDEO] Perhaps for your interest for those of you looking for a job, and hopefully one that pays very well here's a video for being a freight train conductor for the CSX railroad. I didn't really look up much information as far as pay or even benefits, however, it does seem that in general if you work in transportation when you start you must be available anytime your employer calls.

I think this is standard in the transportation industry you must have a mandatory 10 hour rest period between shifts. Also once you begin to gain some seniority that you will eventually get your choice of shifts. Say you're tired of working nights so instead you work mornings for example.

The one fascinating thing about working for a railroad - or transportation in general - you can visit a lot of places in America or around the world. Who's to say in your 10 hour rest period you decide to do some tourism type activities depending up where you might wind up after you get off work.

Check out the CSX Careers page if perhaps you might have the interest. And yes I will say for the record that this video is a bit corny as far as it's presentation but then look at it this way. If these companies want you to work for them they have to sell to you as much as you have to sell to them so that they can hire you.

Ever want to be a projectionist?

[VIDEO] This video is most interesting we meet with Julia who works with this Texas movie theater company Alama Drafthouse and she talks about her job as a projectionist. She works with film projectors that use both 35mm and 70mm films. She has to insure that the projector is working normally and she has to thread the film during the screening.

She notes that most theaters are using digital projection now. I won't say her job is obsolete - especially if she works at a company that still utilizes film when possible - however since film exhibition is mostly digitized the skills she talks about are not necessary in general. Still to be responsible for the quality of a film exhibition in general is necessary in a public place of amusement.

If you're an aspiring film maker, perhaps you have an opportunity here. You can see upfront how the public responds to films. Perhaps one day it'll be your film that public will see and decide that it's good enough to enjoy a long and profitable run at theaters everywhere.

Amazon's hiring in Chicago

Amazon Jobs
We get a quick blurb from Chicago Tonight
Amazon is roughly doubling the number of employees in its Chicago Loop office, adding 400 new jobs and 70,000 square feet of new space. But these aren’t warehouse jobs we’re talking about – they’re new hires that will work in fields including cloud computing, advertising and business development.

There are currently more than 400 people working in Amazon’s Chicago office at 227 W. Monroe St. supporting the company’s web services, advertising, transportation and operations units.

The new Chicago jobs are among more than 30,000 positions Amazon is working to fill nationwide.
Get your resumes ready and brush up on your skills.

Day in the life of an Amtrak conductor

[VIDEO] Once upon a time back in about the first grade, I wanted to work on trains. During that time I took my first cross country train trip to Washington, DC on board Amtrak. I got some nice children's activities books and example of which I got somewhere at home. It reminds me of my very first train trip, my parents even allowed me to keep the ticket stubs and the ticket jacket which unfortunately I've since lost.

I didn't know what they called all the people onboard the train. I didn't know anything about conductors or engineers or even the attendants. So I gave them jobs such as train owners or train drivers. Hell I didn't even know who did what on CTA as I dealt with them far more often than Amtrak over the years.

Either way transportation is fascinating, dealing in the movement and delivery of people and goods. Keeping things on a consistent schedule and insuring the safety of people and quality of goods. And to be able to see plenty of different places on your travels, potentially travel the world no matter the mode of transport is a very exciting career.

This is why I'm sharing this video from Amtrak careers which shows the day in the life of an Amtrak conductor. If only YouTube had existed in the 1980s I'd know more about this job and what it entails. Good thing for me is, it's not too late to take on this role and enjoy some of the peripheral benefits of travel that it entails.
