Ever hear of Pembroke Township, Illinois

 There's a battle brewing in this city located in Kankakee County located 60 miles south of Chicago. Preservationists want some land in this farming community however based on those plans the largely Black farmers in this down are opposed to it.

This article from ProPublica shares the history of Pembroke and how so many Black farmers settled in this area. European settlers passed on this land which is often sandy, however, Black farmers found other crops to grow on this soil. Primarily okra, greens or even watermelon.

And reading this article I ran across another place to share on YouTube a state nature preserve located in Prembroke Township known as Prembroke Savannah.
