This had been in the news for the past couple of months or so. Her bad PR started with her testimony in front of a Congressional Committee with regards to antisemitism. Her responses were a fail and should really be a slam dunk and she botched it.

A few Black academics I've seen - including the President of Morehouse College - have released statements in support of the now former Harvard President Gay. It seems to suggest that there are different standards set for Black academics vs white academics. However, here's my position what if she only showed she just didn't belong in the position and got it only because she was a "diversity, equity, and inclusion" hire. Especially in a very important position as a Ivy League University President...

Ken Coleman of Ramsey Solutions (and you've seen videos from Dave Ramsey here overtime) discusses the "waning worth of college degrees". He may say these trends predate the coronavirus pandemic. He calls into question the college ranking system as he cites a report that Carleton College in Minnesota claims they're #1 in teaching.

My read is that perhaps the public is generally waking up to the idea that the college degree isn't worth the push it's been getting at least over the last 20 years. It's not worth the rising tuition and by extension the debt. It's OK to question the value or even what you're supposed to get from a degree.

Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports to host largest HBCU Week

 Found out about this on our local ABC affiliate. So I decided to google it to find out more via ClickOrlando.com:

Walt Disney World’s ESPN Wide World of Sport Complex is set to host HBCU Week for the first time beginning next month.

HBCU Week’s mission is to encourage high-school aged students to enroll into historically Black colleges and universities.

Beginning Oct. 6, an estimated 5,000 students and their families will get the chance to check out an exciting college fair, concerts and comedy shows, an epic “Battle of the Bands” event and enjoy a parade at Magic Kingdom. This is the first time in its five-year history that the HBCU Week Foundation is hosting its annual event at Walt Disney World Resort, which is expanding the foundation’s ability to stage new and more high-profile activities for its attendees.

“We are pleased to share in the mission to highlight the rich history and cultural significance of HBCUs, creating educational and, ultimately, career opportunities for students,” said HBCU Week Founder and CEO Ashley Christopher. “Hosting this national event at Walt Disney World Resort helps amplify the mission of HBCU Week, attracting more parents and students throughout the country to our events and helps make an even greater impact in fostering opportunities for thousands of students.”

I'd say if done for the right reasons, this isn't a bad trend. Perhaps other corporations could host events such as this in the future. 

Prager U: College has become a scam

Is a degree necessary for your success? If you want to be successful in your life what does it really take? ANd can you learn those things in a classroom?

Well I'm not personally saying college is a scam. I'd say a college degree isn't valuable if everyone has one. I think expanding the opportunity for everyone to get a degree hasn't been beneficial and this is probably why you're seeing pieces and commentaries such as these.

Prager U: Student loan forgiveness scam

You're going to hear the term cui bono - or to whom it benefits - a lot in this video. Student loans benefits for example the universities because it enables them to hire more administrators or construct more buildings on campus. Student loan forgiveness though perhaps takes a load off of those low earning and impoverished college graduates could actually benefit the wealthy more.

Is law school worth it even if you don't practice law?

 Well this is a blog named for a school so this topic is worth sharing on this blog.

More practically, law school comes in handy when you need to sign contracts, resolve disputes, interpret laws or understand legal processes.

The credential of a J.D. also signals an ability to handle rigorous coursework and manage stressful demands, particularly if you earn it from a reputable law school.

Many potential employers look favorably on law school graduates, particularly in fields like business, professional services, politics, mediation, communications and social justice. And many law graduates gain the confidence to succeed on their own as consultants, journalists and entrepreneurs.
