Mr. Beat on the 2016 Presidential Election

 

[VIDEO] I guess we're binge watching Mr. Beat videos. I'm doing this because next week we're having a Presidential Election. We're in unprecedented times so the public is encouraged to vote early whether by mail, absentee, or even vote early. Many still like myself plans to vote on Election Day.

So to see where we are right now in 2020 politically we should revisit the 2016 election. Although 62,980,160 popular votes were cast for Donald Trump and Mike Pence they won the election with 304 electoral votes due to the quirky nature of the electoral college. The runner ups was Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine with 65,845,063 popular votes cast and the main thing is that they had only 227 electoral votes. In the electoral college you need 270 votes to win outright. The number of popular votes you win matters less if you don't have enough electoral votes.

2016 was one of those odd elections accordingly. President Trump is the first President to have had very little political experience before his election. Indeed he had never ever held elective office before he took the oath of office in January 2017.

On the other hand former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was touted as well qualified - not only was she the former first lady of the United States she was also a US Senator from New York - she was also the first woman to secure a major party nomination for President. As it turned out this was an historic election of sorts regardless.

I'll let Mr. Beat give you the rundown of 2016. I wonder how he might recap the 2020 elections once the tally is finally counted.

The video above is from the fb page of Morehouse College. This was shot at the bell in front of the Sale Hall annex the day after the elections. If you've seen a 20 year old PBS documentary The Morehouse Men, this bell is what a Morehouse Man should answer whenever it rings.

As we see this is one response to Trump's election. It's enough that Dr. John S. Wilson, President of Morehouse College, had to speak on this as you see here. He discussing the fact that of the 600K or so Blacks that reside in Georgia not enough go to the polls.

He's basically responding or has his response to this year's election which saw Donald Trump become the President-elect of the United States. This outcome that many are baffled by has resulted in protests around the nation especially in downtown Chicago.

Does anyone here have any thoughts to offer as far at the recent 2016 elections?

Not that I had been all over this, but aside from Donald Trump winning this state in his bid for the Republican nomination for President - the same with Hillary Clinton, btw. Also with longtime Congressman Bobby Rush beating his challenger Ald. Howard Brookins tonight. We have this.

I consider her response to a question about guns when Anita Alvarez first ran for Cook County State's Attorney. Her performance on 60 Minutes discussing Chicago being the false confession capital. And then the protests following the release of a video of a fatal confrontation with Laquan McDonald.

I share the pic above not only here but to our ig page just to share that someone is happy about Tuesday night's victory for the new Democratic nominee for State's Attorney Kim Foxx.

BTW, I have wondered people in other parts of the country and as it turns out suburban Cook County get those "I voted" stickers. Why don't we? DNA Info answers and unfortunately it took a few people to ruin it for everyone else as it turns out. :(

If you live in Chicago's 9th ward...

You may have received these palm cards from the Cook County Democratic Party in the mailbox which you are able to bring with you into the voting booth next Tuesday. One has a general listing for candidates the other one lists the judges you will vote for next week.

Capitol Fax: Alvarez fighting to obtain party nod

In sharing this post at Capitol Fax, it's not just about state's attorney Anita Alvarez who sought backing from the Cook County Democrats. Todd Stroger wants to get back into politics is seeking an open seat on the Water Reclamation District. Rich Miller further opines that "This officeholder [Alvarez] really needs a primary so she can be held accountable…"

To go much further, this is really a post about how slating works in Cook County. Over the years there have been articles on the slating of judicial candidates in Cook County. Certainly it's a very political process but hey we are talking about politics here.

BTW, to go back to Alvarez for a moment we'll go back to the vault to this post. She was interviewed for a 60 Minutes story regarding false confessions out of Chicago. Do you think Anita Alvarez should have a contested primary?
