NY Times: Only 8 Black students admitted to elite NYC high school

I suppose the question ask when you read this article is why is that number so low? Why aren't Black students being admitted to NYC's elite public high schools? The article notes the effects of the pandemic because Blacks were disproportionately affected by this pandemic as many families are keeping their kids out of school.

I see here a lot of focus has been admissions testing to these elite schools as to why Black students aren't admitted to NYC's elite schools. Could it be the quality of instruction at low performing public schools? Could it be that remote learning due this pandemic is holding back students?

If there are issues of inequality what can we do about it without scapegoating a test or as noted scapegoating a group of students who are academically successful?
