[VIDEO] The kids today don't know anything about "Schoolhouse Rock"

Schoolhouse Rock are animated shorts that might air during commercial breaks typically on ABC during Saturday morning cartoons - wait what are those? Between say 7 AM to about 12 Noon on Saturdays the big four TV networks ABC, CBS, NBC, & FOX would air children's programming usually cartoons during that time. These days you're more likely to find educational/informative programming on those networks during that time on Saturday mornings.

Anyway they would typically take on educational topics in this case this video would look at the Declaration of Independence. That is the document where these United States our nation declared their independence from the British Empire. So this was the holiday we celebrate today with BBQ and fireworks.

What I got to say about it is, YIKES!

6th Ward Alderman Roderick Sawyer - also chairman of the city council Black Caucus - spoke at the City Club of Chicago on Thursday. After his speech he was asked about the cover you see above. Rich Miller cover this on his blog yesterday. Even had full video of Ald. Sawyer talking to a reporter for channel 7. In Sawyer's words the above cover is "the equivalent of putting gasoline on fire". The alderman sees this cover as race baiting. Watch [VIDEO]

Regardless the comments of one JB Pritzker - who incidentally does have the support of Ald. Sawyer - aren't exactly going away anytime soon. We have almost a month before the primary elections at this poitn.

2015: Happy New Year

Once again we usher in 2015 again with Charles Schulz' Peanuts crew. I hope we all have a prosperous new year and make 2015 one to remember!

Also it will be snowing on this blog until at least March which would mark the end of the winter season. We can start looking again towards spring & summer! :)

Happy 4th of July

Independence Day is almost over, but that doesn't mean we can't use the Peanuts characters to mark this day. Also school's out for the summer anyway and even if either school is in session or there's a summer school session today would be a day off anyway.

However you marked this day in your personal life hopefully it was celebrated in a very safe way. Hopefully you were careful in firing your fireworks. And hopefully everyone was well fed by any BBQ foods.

Most importantly you celebrated the USA's birthday with friends & family!

To end 2013, we're going to once again reign in the New Year 2014 with Charlie Brown and his Peanuts gang. You know I'm bad with these specials, last night Charlie Brown did have a New Year's special on last night and I never tuned in. I'm sure there were also other specials for Christmas and Thanksgiving that I never tuned in for.

I got to stop that or at the very least use iTunes and watch them in the future so that another broadcast will never be missed. In fact I have been thinking about getting one of those Apple TV devices so that whatever programs or films purchased through iTunes will be seen on my TV set. That'll be in the future though.

Also in 2014, next month I plan on posting a blog about where I want to really take this place. There's one post ready to go although hey it's not as much as a direction as it could be an idea.

Other than that Happy New Year's everyone and a successful 2014.

Lately it appears that I now have an affinity for posting pictures involving Peanuts characters when I note a coming holiday. Thanksgiving it was Snoopy and for Christmas it's that bird Woodstock, who's Snoopy's buddy. I was certainly tempted to say Snoopy who's a pet himself also has a pet. Well that's cartoon's for you.

20 years ago the start of Batman: The Animated Series

UPDATE: When I originally wrote and published the post the title was 10 years ago. OOPS! I didn't date myself far enough. Sorry! 

I don't remember what day the first day of school was 20 years ago, but back then it was the beginning of the run of Batman: The Animated Series.

Back then Batman to me was Adam West. Reruns of the 1960s Batman series could be seen on TV back then. I wasn't yet aware of the Batman movies whether it was Batman or Batman Returns. Those films and the animated series offered a different vision of Batman which was much darker or perhaps more violent.

Somewhere along the way I had become sold on the animated series. Other than such programs as Tiny Toons you could count me as a regular viewer.

Another thing about back then was that on some channels whether that was on Fox 32 or later 26 "The U" you could still watch cartoons on those local channels in the afternoons. And that was how I caught up to Batman in the afternoons when I got out of school every day!

But times change unfortunately.

BTW, one year later this version of Batman graced the silver screen unfortunately I never had a chance to view this move Batman: Mask of the Phantasm and it didn't last long at the show. Now, it is part of my video collection as I purchased this movie from Best Buy years later.

I wonder who out there are fans of the recently concluded Batman trilogy that includes Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises.
