Political Forum: IL Secretary of State candidates

 

[VIDEO] It's unclear when this aired on CAN-TV however as host Sylvia Snowden noted we're voting for a new Secretary of State for the first time since she was in middle school. Jesse White the incumbent who's stepping down at the end of his term has been in office since 1998.

Here's the description:

Host Sylvia Snowden sits down with 4 candidates for Illinois Secretary of State; Dan Brady (R), Alexi Giannoulias (D), David Moore (D), and Anna Valencia (D).

As you see Dan Brady, a state representative from downstate, is the only Republican interviewed in this almost hour long video. He does have Republican opponents in the primary June 28th.

On the Democratic side David Moore is a current Chicago Alderman, Anna Valencia is Chicago City Clerk, and Alexi Giannoulias is known as a former state treasurer and ran for Barack Obama's old U.S. Senate seat in 2010 though he lost that bid to Republican Mark Kirk.

So far I've only heard the answer from State Rep. Dan Brady and he gave some precise answers as far as what the Secretary of State does and his plan for improving that constitutional executive office.

Is there anyone here you would choose to succeed Secretary White?

IL Channel: Black WW2 Veteran Honored for His Service, in DC via Honor Flight

[VIDEO] On this blog a few times I noted C-Span which basically is our national public affairs cable channel. You will see gavel to gavel coverage of the federal government especially the sessions of the US Congress both House & Senate.

The Illinois Channel serves the same purpose though in this case it primarily covers Illinois' public affairs. If you live in Chicago you mostly will see IL Channel programming on Chicago Access Network channels 19 & 21 - and these are for those of you who has Comcast cable.

Today I want to share the honor flight of Black World War Two veteran William Walker. Honor Flight is dedicated to sending World War Two vets to Washington, DC to be able to see the memorial on the National Mall dedicated to them. Walker's story is a great one and he rose to a leadership role in the Navy which was unusual at the time.

You might see this over the weekend if you tune in on CAN-TV if it's available to you.

ALSO, I remember a student teacher who had a couple of guests in our class during the 7th grade. Two Black men who had themselves served during WW2. They told us about the shells they had to endure during combat which were designed to effect the air around them. I'm sure they could've told us worse stories about war than that. Easily relatable to those you people who were interested and certainly good to see other Blacks who experienced that war tell their stories.

9th Ward Alderman on CAN-TV "Political Forum"

[VIDEO] You know I wish I was more in tune to what's going on the CAN-TV call-in program Political Forum. Now that we're in the midst of municipal election season we're probably going to find plenty of incumbents willing to come onto this show to tout their positions on important issues and their accomplishments.

Last Wednesday December 3rd it was Ald. Anthony Beale's turn to talk about "jobs, raising the minimum wage, cab regulations, red light cameras, and more".

I haven't yet had the chance to watch the video above but everyone who reads this blog is more than free to discuss their thoughts on this appearance. The map of the 9th ward which you have seen here from time to time is shown below.
