[VIDEO] Not only is George Washington a famous American general who also was the very first President of the United States - under the US Constitution of course. He's also the president you see on the one dollar bill and even on our quarters. He's one of the more important figures in American history and the edutuber Mr. Beat discusses his life and career in a recent video.
He was very important in the American Revolution and had come from very humble roots. He was often dismissed by his British military peers, however, well he was one of the military leaders of the American Revolution of course. He was thought of so highly that he presided over the US Constitutional Convention and was overwhelmingly elected the first POTUS.
Of course let's not overlook the stain of slavey in his life. He inherited slaves from his father who died when George was young. He freed his slaves as provisioned in his will after his death recognizing that owning other people was wrong. However, as Mr. Beat states we have to view people not through modern lenses but as products of their own time.
